Looking at the motor drive circuit and various hack posts, I realized that the motor speed is dependent on the motor voltage so before I went as far as finding a replacement motor, I ran some experiments using different types of AA batteries (Alkaline 1.5 volts, NiMh 1.3 volts and NiZn 1.6 volts). I used 4 Amazon AA NiMH rechargeable batteries which have a typical voltage of 1.3 volt (so four in series is about 5.2 volts). So every shot required me to zoom out and zoom back in once the goal was in the field of view. I purchased for lacrosse and discovered on the first weekend of use, I was unable to pan fast enough as the ball moved down the field.

But if you need something fast that will travel well, look elsewhere.Ģ How to Improve Pan Speed with 1.6 v NiZn batteries or Alkaline batteries The kit including the head, power supply, remote, and long cord is nice.

If you want something low-cost and don't need speed or durability, the Bescor is probably okay. Ultimately we opted for a VidPro motorized pan/tilt device that cost more.

Plus the plastic housing doesn't appear very durable. The remote control isn't as handy as the joystick controls on competitive models, so combining pans and tilts to follow action is awkward at best.

We found that the Bescor is not fast enough. The device needs to be able to track action as it moves up and down the playing area. We tested the Bescor Pan & Tilt Head for use during live sports.
